The Valley Landscaping - Elevations

Now that the track is down, I replaced the buildings for the town and the livestock pen. I penciled in a route for the road - from the trestle into the town, then looping through the southern region, past the livestock pen, and back to the trestle.

I cut pieces of printer

tentative layout for the valley
paper to represent an elevated region for the town, a small spot near the northern straight away, and for a higher region just west of town.

Each piece of paper was used as a template to cut quarter-inch layers of styrofoam with the Hot Wire Foam Cutter to create the elevations. I then eye-balled an extra layer under the region just west of
town, two extra layers for the peaks on the western layer, and several other additional layers here and there to make things look better.
The container of Woodland Scenics Foam Putty that I purchased for my first layout is still about a quarter full. I added a couple of teaspoonfuls of water and mixed it in well. This gives a texture more like cake icing. I used my fingers to spread this on the western elevations to provide more gentle slopes from one layer to the next and to round off the tops of the hills. western elevations
