Arkwright's Store
RSLaserKits # ZOTS-02
Arkwright's Store

This kit is one of RSLaserKits' "1800 Main Street Series" of buildings. The package was not labeled with a store name, was shown simply as a Main Street Store" at their web site, but the pictures which came with the kit showed a sign saying "J. Marley Dry Goods and Mining Supplies." No sign accompanied the kit, so I've renamed the store "Arkwright's Provisions and Mining Supplies."

The kit comes as several pieces of laser-cut wood (shown at the right), plastic for the windows, and laser-cut paper shingles for the roof.

I painted the wood pieces before assembly, and touched up a little afterwards. The building was painted with Delta Ceramcoat's Magnolia White and the trim with their Navy Blue.

Unfortunately, the parts-list picture, other pictures, and instructions apparently were

for their HO scale kit because they were a bit different than my Z scale kit. However, assembly was fairly straight forward, even without specific directions.

Since the kit did not come with a sign, I created my own with Adobe Photoshop. I created a new image 1-inch by 0.25-inch at 1200 dpi. I used 6 point Italic Nimbus Roman No9L for the text on a yellow background with a dark blue border. I printed the image at maximum resolution with Janet's Hewlett Packard Deskjet 3915 onto a sheet of heavy card stock.
