Painting
the Horizon
I marked the width
of the space between the highlands with a pencil, then removed the foam. I
used two coats of Plaid Enterprises acrylic #20223 "Pool Blue" to paint
the sky all away around the top of the suitcase and down to the "ground"
in the marked space between the highlands. Although the "southern" view
will not normally be seen, I painted it also.
After the second coat of sky was dry I painted "extensions" of the highland
cliff out to the horizon on the north and south sides of the suitcase with
Delta Ceramcoat "magnolia white" acrylic paint.
After the white cliffs were dry I used "Stone Gray" from the Woodland Scenics
Earth Color Kit to paint "cliff faces" over the white paint to give the
illusion that the highlands extend north and south into the distance. The picture at the right shows
the northern horizon (minus the foam highland pieces.)
