Final Landscaping

I'm not exactly sure what I mean by "final landscaping." There's no telling when I might find something else to add to the layout. But what follows is some of the last things added.

After the last of the buildings were arranged and glued down I put snow on the ground and on the tops of the buildings.

Additional large and small pines were placed here and there to fill in some bare spots. I used chunks of Woodland Scenics Medium Green Bushes (FC146) to fill in smaller areas, especially along the rock faces on each side of the tunnel portals. I used some of the bare trees from Caytrain for deciduous trees here and there among the pines, in the barn yard, and around some of the houses.

I've begun to set cars on the streets and parking lots. The fire engine is outside one of the fire station doors and the school bus is coming down Main Street.

Most of the people that I have don't appear to be dressed for winter. I do have a couple of ladies in long coats that are now visiting the cemetery. Some of the others are wearing jackets or have long sleeves, so I'll set some of them here and there. I have a lot of Preiser travelers, and it doesn't much matter what they're wearing as long as they can get to or from the station with their bags.

A drop of Maxi-Cure was placed on each wheel of the cars, fire engine and school bus before setting them into place.

The railroad crossing signals were placed on each side of the crossings at each end of Main Street.

The cattle in the barnyard looked a little hungry, so to simulate a pile of hay I placed a pinch of Woodland Scenics Yellow Grass Fine Turf near the barn door and moistened it with a little Scenic Cement.

The intersection of Main and Cross Streets looked a little dangerous without any traffic light or stop signs, so I made four stop signs and installed them. There's information about how I made the stop signs in my Special Information section.

Although not shown on the next page, I finally obtained a tractor-trailer rig for the layout. There is a picture below and more information in my Special Information section.
