Red Dog Saloon

Red Dog Saloon
RSLaserKits # GSR-01

This was labeled "Greg's Saloon and Repair Shop," but I think "Red Dog Saloon" sounds better for my Old West layout.

The kit is almost identical to the Blacksmith shop, except that the pair of front doors are open and the entrance has a pair of swinging "saloon doors."

I painted the exterior walls, side doors and swinging doors with Model Master Medium Green. The window frames and other trim were painted with Plaid Apple Barrel Country Gray.

The open front doors and the sidewalk were painted with Model Master Wood. The inside floor and the exposed underside of the roof were painted with Plaid Apple Barrel Burnt Umber. The floor warped when painted, so I painted the underside with Burnt Umber, too, and set a bottle of thinner on it to flatten it while it dried.
I used Photoshop to draw the red dog for the sign. I created a 1200 dpi image 0.406 x 0.188 inches and colored it red. I then created and copied into this image a light green 0.376 x 0.158 inch image to create a

green sign with a red border. I resized and copied the red dog into the sign image and created the red text with 6 point Italic Nimbus Roman No9L. I printed the image at maximum resolution with Janet's Hewlett Packard Deskjet 3915 onto a sheet of heavy card stock. I stuck the sign to the wooden mount on the roof with double-faced tape (as I had fastened the shingles to the roof.)
